A few minutes later she says, "Mommy, this is what we need to do...."
These are her directions for her project - all planned out before she started! I've been tied up in yarn lately, and haven't had a chance to post. But I saw a pic of a fabulous project bag featured on this blog. And have been daydreaming about it ever since. My friend, who happens to own my LYS called to ask if I had any knitting totes. I didn't at the time, but I quickly got to work throwing these together...
They are all lined with vintage bed linens - the outer materials are some vintage and some new , but I think they came together quite nicely.
<img style="display:block; It's highly functional, and interesting textures. The shape of it seemed perfect - it did have a velcro closure (which can always be altered), and was made of... well, ... plastic. So, I do what I do... find other fabrics that need a new use!

Here's my take on that envelope, I don't know what to call them, like usual. But mine is filled with all my circular needles, tapestry needles and small scissors for knitting. I know, not everyone knits, but I know you can help me find a use for these.

This is the original... the one, I call "mine". It's made from a sweater sleeve, and vintage buttons from gentlemen's suits.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 222px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAOp-qVGaBeyVrzmlCE-SIIwTKkf3cMM_SKJXCbWNDmACcJmETYxCqS-lbjNiGZJqOPQXHjd2dUwWGBiHEYqf7hlhYVAvLfoBPsnulOXkY8h3FNIASqH9_ke19XH71gKEtDYJaa7dBAl9o/s320/DSCF3336.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304975068345144338" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCgshzLSe8Y23F5sS0XNi2i3Sgc62wv-yZemyy58oN5WnZZN7GbyLVxjLBR-2iwL6mmKiuZ_I0oPLwyXsJO52f5FtRPujyH6I_XpZTfNfiAVacTa-CHcM4HOdS8DQOgFOUtelFhLMz7XZ0/s320/DSCF3337.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304975071044085538" />

Here are a couple more, you get the idea... I have boiled it down to the cold hard facts - I pretty much only sell when I am face to face with my customers - and those opportunities are few and far between in the first few months of the year. So, instead of sitting around wondering what I should do, I have been trying to create at least once a week, and will be posting more items on etsy, each week, hoping to generate some interest in the items I have in stock.

In the meantime, I need to be consistent with my posting, blogging and also try a giveaway or two, to see if anyone actually reads this blog.

Maybe it's because this is Gracie's first year of school, and maybe it's because I love hearts - but I've already jumped head-first into making Valentine's for her classmates. Why make them when you can buy them? Because I love all things handmade, because I was inspired by these, and because I had a cool old book with a billion sweet illustrations that were begging to be cut into hearts. Here's our first batch:
I just randomly cut freehand hearts around the illustrations I liked.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9iFxFH2DWC0K-D3rXISAxcWBV5U0Qf_SBdi2Wjw1IZWsVFghLqkDKAN-B7kiut3m4atmE_67XhFcc6Lw4Z-dyhyZnU0KRjjJ9Jb3uUx_W9T2q9yi8A_oo8aZs2DMQV-uyULKcq4euE8nL/s320/DSCF3328.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298684625653723506" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfCtNEAuV8Ypn1ak77UlwLbLJsDAREodH66xzg_zoLxqBUEI81J0rkEOXovkiV-dWA0vdq_kotQvvcJsboW4ZA-q2IhztXn9EL3ngx8TFyYo8kzU6CCr1XwXqu4xjm4VYH4Hm9SAMSnLWE/s320/DSCF3326.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298684622378355426" />
Then we painted the backs red.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVY7unvlM5dQlxDXyxbh9HUtzJagE9p_ZgBawmbyHVFrXMMvUBWrzKME5Fo31LI-YSGmoPwTa5kf4sYnWtnw341b_LSA29AuK2BDQPE2vxI0fQhxk_j5fmFN4ZWXBDNvgrEAVcNUP3lO05/s320/DSCF3307.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298684621544339410" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbWN8hoeFg1Eq9ZCa4ngITBpsxqqRwvK0ZXCcggXfEEery8c_Abbegs752KC3qR_aSy6bPFapyFr8QU1LamJtUhW7fXRkW0ib-jkGxDQajnM-VkgEdWaoXmV0qD86BtvqRD_tK219Tk9OW/s320/DSCF3306.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298684614981916194" />
Then Gracie signed her name.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzoNw4sGDrVyscIsvKHkqud-zfDezqd_WL6i-QWntjQgkyPtI1fUngRw2hL0fT96aCA0KUPmcNKqwJnrGclcCZSIr3tmfSFTo_yKp-5040ms1D5iqtiw_dM1JJ027gLgoAs17X2nB__S2J/s320/DSCF3330.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298684630058087218" />

Voila! Judger. Anyway, I do have items to post, just don't have enough hours in the day to take pics, write witty descriptions and post products. Not to mention, I had come to the conclusion that Etsy was not working for me and was a waste of my precious creative energy. But, I have been wrong about so many things lately, I decided to repost, and keep the creative juices flowing. Who knows, maybe my new goal of posting weekly, will actually get me going on some more projects!
First of all, remember that sweet polyester quilt I posted a few times back? And how I promised I would give you some pics of what I had created? Well, I hadn't posted yet, because I had this notion that maybe I would sell out of them.... and wouldn't be worth my posting, but I was... wrong. It seems I am the only one who thinks these are rad... and worth $15. So, here you are - note my beautiful model (who was freezing, but enjoyed mommy saying "look over there"... "look at the tree" ... "look at the ground"... "look at the sky" ).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 299px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRO_lfQQ3kZ3bAEtxGXqiFtZIWIOtsoh8d8SmrBki74AmgDjHb_CcKVJ-Yv-Q6Gdu_YYPn7WJ1JqXab-PPwSD3-qPVw8R8yURuM5iKXaIPsMhu4XrWahfeDX3lG6FxXEppUE7m01jaOyFr/s320/DSCF3291.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294574722399134034" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 312px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgikoFB0QCjxfEtG6akSW9nkEhsnDtAoHEHrsCxgAsNoWtxLDRtXkjfvD_tLBXv6_YiwTM_Z5fbSDYEfc6TmjFyz2_z8uIaOEslRGcKWcaIFutOTPrnLClcoe3iQLjFn_VUHU6TOMi5d64N/s320/DSCF3292.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294574885471476866" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 317px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_kaubGpBrTcwrKFapMbRIL1iel85hwx3SiceJvBBwgPQuHWhjih-4Qx0K_YgQaHG6fVSGQUsVGXNFOLZ_E_GNrTSabrpAfE4UldQJ0yMV7sDI1gWFup_XvX0SgugLY-j1exb6CShYZurH/s320/DSCF3293.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294575145854644018" />

I have added these items to my etsy shop and put some stubborn items on sale, maybe I can liquidate some things -
I have been sketching new ideas, and recycling clothing into other functional products, so stay tuned - I am working!! Maybe blogging about it, will distract me enough, so I can get on with the rest of the gifts I need to make by Friday. (yes, it's worth it!)

I decided to make Peter a bag, for "pirating" - or for hunting treasures.
Here's his Pirate bag, made with scrap corduroy and lined with a used men's shirt:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrj2_KDRWjdFcLpIMgG6t0ItaLtvIFysPbPM0mSKeKcrNFrjz-LWY8OBDPkCiGi1hza1YbAeM-RGURHnVpkeDmJNr-1QiLQku5oxJIvla4lcAUBpZzgiqTU7kQHdXwe9c8oJXCs2neG26I/s320/DSCF3159.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280489014936189842" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmL1r4q_KzLHwc0F5W3ruPcm5zNTDe-GmIKIdrqqggKlL4cUSFOD2bM4bpOJndFaoNCYHT5USjMYKO9_r5pji-F4pcawGISr6DmZJa9h2FMhTlx76wjwNFEHJLgrvpQ42q-zwnDIY9piqj/s320/DSCF3160.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280489022751292178" />

Inside you'll find some extra special cargo:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-i-oJjjPCkvNDim7TaP2bViVL7uvjrcXKTAv5jjX0QSPsXbpWSUNf6qalsLmwP0hGKqTxptH8FCjG2pIrvPspRqONXUu9x6sFSAi-B5U73FNavddu3FkTXGeUZL75BRKh_WuSTqfJXCjB/s320/DSCF3161.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280489034056023842" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKM-tTpFEY_UD6iU06HJH9L7vC6hp2PCZOCKX0cm4RjX1_ZSlU5MYq7U5tSrUvztG3LAedhSj2x8OUUnw_qx0oxxIug85i61o7I1xjrA4Ie5f5807thJY_OSeRJgpN7uwCGtK_NnI-0DGU/s320/DSCF3157.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280489042736977794" />

I found a map at a local used book store for $1.00 + tax, and I just sewed it to double thick fabric, for easy rolling (as this is how pirates carry their treasure maps apparently). There aren't many days left until Christmas, and don't you have a LOT of people that you would like to delight with gifts?

This Saturday, from 11-7, the Flying M Coffeegarage, holds it's 3rd annual "Hip holiday Market". It is a fabulous collection of local artists, and their unique gifts - you will NOT want to miss it. This year there will be more artists than ever before, and if you haven't been to the M for a while, you'll note that there is a lot more room in the "garage"for the biggest market ever.

If you are planning on spending any cash this year, please consider shopping locally (no, not at your local Walmart), but by businesses that are owned by local people, who live in your community. And if it's possible, look for items that are made by hand by people you live near. A simple choice to purchase locally, will benefit our community and brings so much satisfaction. Meet the person who created the product, find out that they live within 10 miles of your home, and their handicraft is made without compromising or threatening your family's employment.

I hope to see you there! Join the local and handmade revolution.
Here's a sampling of what I will have to offer...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkcrmCNk_o4pDAChS95ZIWb5c8_KhGuSX77K3kuJ9pAP-NcVy2O6qCiGOg4SFkTYU2gJrEWjKX78Ro6E1ur00QhXxH8XVfhx54xgIWNEQX6nC5S1pFoW-BxRY7DS909nlxEdsRSbbFXE30/s320/DSCF3113.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275300786846911506" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2xj-XZbr6JoxUZNjzv0Vza4rKKe3hmx7rbEKuf6qCq7uVc2TaauHuB3szth1CFTVF9gBVbIsfz2yRxjGpeWrffY6v3z07rsM5DPoA8ivhp0JZhzLwi-gNG0wb67Qtw3EXdbx-UqT4QhSp/s320/DSCF3111.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275300783669045138" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihUOsrH9gcl9gzesM6MKMGoL3Q7HXqhtwyoSWpdAvl0eVC2BeKsNzmbS03W6-zQJjQd0GR3GKBuQFnGdCzNMC_zvWg4_dwgQsppHE9ggfpY1FpTtkbAfoWwWeiu-CEcTfwQQfWZIPpHowW/s320/DSCF3103.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275300776790350162" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho1FPLLJxDvzDPtbT__a5gZXbHMtN5GSgItsPrC13cNu2zwa0rtyyjH2OaC6iHAcEDLm7onGW_hRuc37BqylgKfv72JjUI-eOE7G2xiyohOGKYxwzheeXTDAaJYCE0jIFZFWYLMNZ7tBSK/s320/DSCF3102.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275300770059273106" />

oh oh... here's a sweet article about this show (and a shout out to fellow crafters!theschramfamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08107524096890624314noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3080180233928335244.post-58095842415152300692008-11-13T16:55:00.006-07:002008-11-14T09:00:28.397-07:00Sneak PeekI found this at a fabulous second hand sale...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBh3tyNtYA4Stx_kjULK1DJnZBhvGJvR0qLEIlt9NMtDgHf63X-LjzX9f6PTOnOkiIhfOwy_12Y02lHAxU2WSfesNlTj71P-JzzkwuLYz0X9mnY62ZSoLVyicDBGXCKabYqZ2F4jKlfk4r/s320/DSCF3092.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268295704178839570" />

Funny thing is, I'm not even sure what it is. It is definitely made of seriously cool polyester squares, from previously loved clothing... but it's not a quilt. Well, at least, it's not a quilt that you would put on a bed... or a lap... or anything else I could think of. Maybe it once warmed the back of a couch? It is the only thing I can think of that would require such a long, skinny, quilt.
Whatever it once was, I know what it will be next!! And then the cycle will be complete... or will it?! Just think - all those clothes, from so many people - were then turned into a quilt... and will now be turned again - upcycled, if you will, re-used. :)

I'm not telling what I'm making with it, but I do know where you'll be able to see my recycling efforts:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 206px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7ivNXxxxkUbdw4HrviuBvByXPeKX_Ro9GW-KeuMj4hL0tkYAVoAG4_dwkHvsAb4BAi7bP2fnW9W6SDhUZ-btROh3_FkbaOUuzAGKzXcJlCb9cOdhpgHgJMOgXPnf-fDkKCVWvXEDVGx9L/s320/Picture+2.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268298278366238082" />

Craft o copia - The White Pine, downtown Nampa. It's super stretchy and my cankles are happy :)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhatZlXrul_cuR0X8PLmrzDctI6wbZVLm52Y2V6IOS_VluhudNtfn31R12vjsDo9CdiPKDLe78ydOHcTawE2G2okXUyYY_BMKEJEFQgl-fuTwqBPgstgRL3rU0sG94X2wF9GoVnuBRrRg05/s320/Photo+138.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241813391376614034" />

Here's the bind off before:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgnT5l3NkY3j7pZFAT2sonI-_EHYns8Ezi2-QCuPDXD5S5uMzXx8IO1PdSXHJUwyMhGZJC2NVHzVCLCiZHTNnV__Mz4TQW-0fS8hNYU7XUroPgG03mtne1j5QEVnCn8zNg_fCWhfpXk2hv/s320/DSCF2854.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241814481202085490" />

And After:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiATJSz6GRxKhEe9ir9ElgC9QDBSKhi38_rEj_bGzOBirMZRhQFDG1W5NfmDIkYvWcIfmg1kKw1p5PmBgf05QtV32EfvTXkiCjz398mTUvG9OjNovyPaWEiQMayd1Jhiu3WOvI7QwLoHMKN/s320/DSCF2859.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241817111444554562" />

ok, so maybe it's not that obvious off my leg, but on it's a huge stretchy difference!
On this first pair of socks, I learned - the "magic cast-on"... an invisible cast on for toe-up socks. Then I thought of my brother, who is dressed by his wife - and thought "this just might work!" :)
So, here's my first gentleman's necktie, what do you think?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV36Q8GJNpNkG0GbJiGU71LFrjkaquzfEdYl_aogEpAhIrI-yglMszoceNrdWJpwLsAQQwKj8UXugIEaNtrgGoXSO6bJA6smWpLDkoOfbr7rSzuKNuNVns8XrexKK6ambeiWvoA0rZLb2_/s320/DSCF2845.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234472289098053378" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCwFSO9Rmj9hFl6Bwc5RSFkBluKczZqES1wa6w_-JJcbUO5qvagFS6LSIMj5ptoj-i5Qb2uSD-t7Mzu9ub5_Tudvk9X8QYBPU_LLpb6j9z8emQUyX4_MvKOFP8A88DEByFZVVIfq6bnTaW/s320/DSCF2846.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234472295385235394" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh1QC-CMFIADh1NNGD9lzAkO4AfT9Z6GD683isSAzSJ7mt3Zrv5Jl6GoqJLABRNP9NrehVwP3JfGBT6LtxlQSvhJ2J1HOhTk22sXEOWzuwa_eluhmpPF0oKlSNGKHHAIiiCUpEwI3t5daW/s320/DSCF2847.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234472298856831522" />

Oh how I love this fabric. I've also done a lot of creating just for myself (is that ok?). I think, "what's the point of creating things, if you only get seconds?". All that to say, I made a load of shirts and onesies for Sparrow Clothing, and they turned out quite well, thank you very much. Here are a few samples. Our Etsy group has been frequenting the Nampa Farmer's Market each week, with a new vendor, and that's been really fun to organize, as well as getting to know some other local Etsy-ers. They are a great resource for creative thinking and great instant friends! I've been swamped. But seriously, three kids keep one especially busy! But, even though I've been silent on the blog-scene, it doesn't mean that I haven't been productive, creatively. So, there!
Our Idaho Indie Works team recently met for a "destash party" - where we traded anything from old sewing machine parts to beading looms. I came away with some exceptional finds. A sturdy set of salvaged wooden bag handles. Several pieces of fabulous upholstery fabric. A bag of zippers (old and new). A pile of adorable quilting fabric. And a collection of scrap fabric.
I also managed to nab some sweet vintage Singer sewing machine accessory boxes... little, perfect... brick shaped boxes... with fitted lids. mmmm
While I was on my way home from the swap, I day dreamed of a dozen creations for my new finds. Some can wait for a later debut, but this bag... is currently my favorite. I have it hanging on my wall... even though I took a picture of it already... I just can't seem to stay away from it. I walk by it and have to linger and stare. It really is a beautiful bag.
I've changed up my "tags" as well. I'm using scrap fabric, and a permanent fabric marker along with my "revive" stamp... I set the ink with heat... and voila! - permanently printed tag!

Please welcome my new bag to my collection. I'd like to call her the "MaLinda" - after the fabulous girl who found it in her heart to part with these gems.

I really love how, she used these fabrics for other things, and then I was able to make a completely new thing with them. And I have more scraps of these fabrics - that are bound to be made into something fabulous!

I will be at Nampa Farmer's Market on June 14th 9am-1pm, if you're in the area, come see me!theschramfamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08107524096890624314noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3080180233928335244.post-75206085257397337052008-03-15T23:23:00.005-06:002008-12-09T11:54:10.865-07:00mmm fabric...Yeah, I am really itching to buy some new fabric - and I think after I receive payment on this next purchase, I will buy a LOT of new fabric. Here are some beautiful textiles that have been really singing to me lately.

First up, my very own sister-in-law, Lacey. Not only is she a talented artist, and mom - but she has decided to produce textiles. I mean, she's hand dying, batiking, printing... creating absolutely beautiful fabrics, which I MUST get my hands on!
Her newest prints are available at Puffy Mondaes (our local, fiber art source) - and her Etsy shop is coming along quite nicely.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz4kPHO0t3ZzCcxdUKcfmg2abvw9EGI0X-hYmR0c-KiVgTwXbwYJgwca0_rJCt5-3C0poYDfC9P2XGvhuzpenS4ryz1wWr6cMRQasvNH1NGKlZifig4Asmec3tBhhjtKwvuA8qzyK-fPzW/s320/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178207591039818194" />

Next, another artist from my beloved Etsy : Stitchindye!
Her style is simple, and colorful, and very unique. What can I say? Handmade really IS better!

Ok, but maybe hand dyed, isn't your thing? Or the item I want to create demands something a bit different? Well, there are certainly your garden variety fabric shops all over the place - so what makes fabric really pop? I mean, is it just because you might be the only one in your county that has a bit of it in your closet? I think that may be it, but it's also the fact that really unique, beautiful fabric is hard to come by - so when you find it, you really need to buy it and keep it close!

Here are a few other options from the mass production world - I must admit, I prefer japanese imported fabric to a lot of domestic brand ... here are some of my favorites:

And yes, this next one looks like something from the end of the 70's, but so am I, and I really love this stuff - but guess what? You can't find it except from japan!

So, It looks like I have my work cut out for me!! I can't wait to get my hands on this stuff!
Happy crafting!!
jenntheschramfamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08107524096890624314noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3080180233928335244.post-44871923705453336382008-02-20T15:18:00.002-07:002008-02-20T15:29:54.066-07:00Etsy etsy etsy...So, yeah, I sell some items of mine on Etsy.com - and have had the privilege of joining forces with other local etsy-ers recently. But I was just thinking about how great it is to meet someone new, and have something in common with them ... like "the desire to buy handmade" or supporting someone who does what you do. Don't know... if that applies to you in your line of work or not, but in my journey to make some cash, while doing something I love, I've found that it's not all about me. There's a whole community of people doing what we do, and they're all over the planet. Incredibly creative ones too, some have more talent than they know what to do with - and others have worked really hard honing their craft to perfection... some things catch your eye, mesmerize you and others only make you think... "i could do that" (my least favorite comment I get from people regarding my own craft.
Anyway, all that rambling to say - I found a new crafter in the midwest, and she has such a cool style, and is creating very functional art, which I love. I contacted her to see if she wanted to "trade" , which may sound cheezy, but I can't do what she does and she can't do what I can... so it's sort of perfect in these handmade circles, to trade it up! Anyway, here's her store. And a sample of what she does. I am more than impressed, and one of her hand-stitched, reverse applique shirts, is on it's way to me as we speak! Hooray! I can't wait to advertise for her.

Her shop is New Flight, and if you see something you like, place an order and tell her I sent you. It's so great to find a great shop on Etsy.
So, here's my new quest - not just get the word out about the stuff I do (boorring...), but get the word out about fellow etsy-ers that I love and appreciate.
Come back and read more soon! and keep buying handmade! (trust me, you'll know the different instantly!!)theschramfamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08107524096890624314noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3080180233928335244.post-33976807012573819982008-02-02T13:54:00.000-07:002008-12-09T11:54:11.156-07:00Is this supposed to be so much fun?While doing some latenight sewing - in preparation for this art/craft show this weekend, I realized again that I do this because I really love to make stuff :) I'm sure there are people who make things simply because they need the cash, but I seriously, love making things. For instance...
I was sewing this bag...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFWql-CyJwHmheLq9RVueJUXRpFcKzHoikVyyzF71rDByY7HAME7CHYRIywZforE4cTm5T68kWsrr5PBZwq01Ip62DAmyXO2Fzkhfrq8_6EHBGJ5Y_jwJKJGP8-Sr8QpMW6P8CYL8B8i9q/s320/DSCF2367.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162623432368575730" />
I was using some scraps of shiny green fabric I had in my stash, and this sweet print from Ikea... and I was making some rather large pockets, when it struck me, that maybe they needed a little pen pocket as well. So, I sewed 2 lines down the center, instead of 1, and voila - pen pocket. Honestly, it's moments like that where I think "yeah, I just thought of that!!" :) I know other people have made pen pockets before, it's just the actual moment of thinking something, then creating it, just because you can... gets me all excited!
Here's a closer look at those pockets...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3pjfMU6PGr9MvufgxAiEFrlnraz884gA0WPDSWDQdJq-i1shA1oxitP0xzrXZPupoN9jYRA57UDK9SHME1E5S5EW44rUKLkJ0Wt8ehA5fIS8-PTGq1I9FjZoemXUgR7OAGvMu6GeHLa-X/s320/DSCF2369.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162624325721773314" />

All in all, I'd say, I really love this bag. Yes, to answer your question, I sometimes make stuff just because I think "someone will like this" - but mostly I just make things that I really like.... what's the point otherwise?theschramfamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08107524096890624314noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3080180233928335244.post-82777450089732543112008-01-31T22:19:00.000-07:002008-01-31T22:45:31.866-07:00Crafty...Hey Everyone - Ok, so apparently it's "hip" to blog about stuff you create too.... not just stuff you think about :) So, here goes. Welcome to Revive - Unique Handicrafts. Interestingly enough, I was just looking through a collection of pictures of my products from the last 2 years and I was SHOCKED that I had created so many items... and equally shocked that I had sold so many of them... for MONEY. :) I've got to admit it's a pretty huge ego boost when someone stops walking, looks at something you spent a few hours on... and says "wow, that's really great" ... and then when they say "I'll take it"... it's like your heart just really starts thumping... "they like me... they really like me.... I didn't waste all that time in a room, away from my children for nothing!".
That's the other crazy part. I started really getting creative, after the birth of my second child. I don't know if I went a little crazy or what. I just needed an outlet for creativity, and thus, revive was born. I like to think of it as my way of sharing a bit of me with this small community I live in. Not because I think people should know who I am, but because I think it's really great to make something pretty, and other people to want to receive it as a gift (yes, money is exchanged as well), but it's really great anyway.

So, I've got some great stuff coming up, and some newer creations that I'm working on, and just haven't had as many hours as I'd hoped, with chasing 3 kids around and stuff... like cleaning up and sorting... and trying to keep our house livable.

I usually peddle my wares on Etsy. You can visit me at my shop or you can see me at various shows around the valley. I've recently joined a like-minded group of hand-crafters from the etsy community,and we're now "Idaho Indie Works". Which is a really great avenue for us all to join ranks and take over our community, by selling the heck out of handmade items that are WAY better quality, stylish, ingenious than anything you're gonna find at stuff-mart.... trust me.

So, come one, come all... here's our next show:
Valentine Fine Art & Craft Show
February 2-3 from 2-8pm
@ 519 Holly Street - Nampa Idaho

Also, our local paper decided we're important too!! Hooray for etsy-ers.
ltheschramfamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08107524096890624314noreply@blogger.com0
